Correctional Health  

The Correctional Health Program delivers quality, cost-effective health care services to adult and juvenile offenders in South Dakota's correctional facilities. The program works to meet the basic health care needs of offenders by providing general primary care, acute inpatient hospital care, dental services, optometric care. Its aim is to continually explore new ways of providing basic health care services more efficiently.

 

Accreditation

All adult and juvenile correctional health sites are accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) and are in compliance with the commission's health standards for care delivered in the correctional setting. NCCHC conducts re-accreditation surveys every 3 years.  NCCHC is one of the leading accrediting firms for prisons. 

NCCHC's Board of Directors includes representatives from the American Nurses Association, American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Dental Association, American Pharmacists Association. Board members provide input into the correctional health standards utilized by NCCHC.
