All children pass through expected stages of growth and development as they mature, some at a faster rate than others. Knowing what to look for in your child at any given age can help you to determine whether or not additional testing might be needed. The South Dakota Department of Health provides developmental screening through the use of the Ages and Stages Parent Questionnaire. Parents are asked to observe their child within their home or familiar setting and answer the questions on the form. This is then returned to the Community Health Nurse who can review the answers and discuss any findings with the parents. Find a Community Health Nurse in your area.
